Box Score BETHANY, Okla. — It was the most dominant performance the perfect time for Southern Nazarene as SNU closed out the 2012 season with 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-15) sweep of East Central.
The Crimson Storm (13-19, 8-6 GAC) won four of its last five matches to close out the season and locked up fifth place in the Great American Conference.
SNU got a big night out of its only four-year senior as
Ellen Martin wrapped up an illustrious career with a match-high 12 kills and 11 digs. The senior notched her 23
rd career double-double and hit .391 (12-3-23) on the night. She also had an ace and a block.
Kira Roberts also ripped 10 kills on the night as all 10 came in the first two sets.
Nicole Greenway ripped nine kills and added seven blocks on the night.
Taylor Chased doled out 37 assists and added four digs and four blocks.
Jamie Hope notched a match-high 20 digs as SNU posted 38 digs as a team. The Storm also had nine blocks as a team.
Martin and Kira each had five kills in the opening set as the Storm hit .438 (17-3-32). SNU led from start to finish and started running away with it with a 6-point spurt early. Tied at 5-5, a Martin kill sparked the first of six straight points as SNU led 11-5. The Storm took their biggest lead of the set at 16-8 and held ECU off the rest of the way.
Roberts ripped five kills in the second set as well in the second set and the Storm didn't trail from start to finish again. SNU led 5-1 early in the set, but ECU continued to cut into the lead and eventually tied it at 15-15. SNU broke a 16-16 tied with two straight points and were up 21-19 when the Storm scored four straight, including a pair of kills from Oliveira to take a 2-0 match lead.
There were eight straight ties to start the third set before SNU scored three straight to take an 11-8 lead. The Storm pushed it to 19-13 late in the set and cruised from there to take the match.
Southern Nazarene graduates three seniors as Martin, Oliveira and
Kristen Adams all played their final matches inside the Sawyer Center.
