Box Score SEARCY, Ark. — How often does a player get to say they quadrupled the total number of goals they have scored the whole year in one single game? Sophomore Mallary Schaub can walk into class Monday morning with that feature tucked in the bag after she notched her second career hat trick Sunday in a 3-0 win over Harding.
Schaub, who had just one goal on the season coming into Sunday's match, scored all three goals for the Crimson Storm (8-4-1, 4-2-1 GAC) and throttled SNU to its fifth straight win. The natural hat trick started not even 10 minutes in when Schaub took a pass from
Sherri Collins and scored her second goal of the season.
"Both Ouachita Baptist and Harding fed to her style of play," said SNU Head Coach
Julie Duncan. "Everything with Mallary is about ball control. She didn't push the ball too far away with her goals today and got a good strike on everything. She's had some good shots and a couple of assists so we're hoping it's really starting to click for her."
The second goal of the game came in the 31
st minute off a
Bekah Stewart assist to make it 2-0 heading into the half. Shaub didn't waste much time in the second half either as it was just 1:02 into the second half when she scored her third goal of the game. Schaub took a through ball up the middle of the field from Collins and went one-on-one with the keeper and scored to the right side of the net.
"We're a young team that is starting to mature," said Duncan. "Everybody is stepping in and taking their role. We've talked about the older girls needing to use their experience to calm the younger players and get them to relax and play."
It was the first time an SNU player has scored a hat trick since Oct. 11 of last year and the third time this year a player has scored multiple goals in a game.
Yoli Zamarripa recorded three saves as Harding put three of its seven shots on goal while SNU put 10 of its 18 shots on frame.
The Crimson Storm now get set to step outside of the Great American Conference one more time by playing at Oklahoma City, Tuesday, for a 6 p.m. game.
