Box Score

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Southern Nazarene played one great half of soccer in holding Point Loma Nazarene scoreless through the first 45 minutes of play, but the Sea Lions returned the favor and then some in a 4-1 win, Saturday afternoon.

The Crimson Storm (1-3-0) allowed just one shot on goal in the first half, but gave up all four Sea Lion (3-0) in the second half.

Edgar Pineda struck first in just the ninth minute of the game when he ripped a 30-yard shot to the left corner of the goal to put the Storm up 1-0. SNU carried that lead into the half after using its defense to give up just one shot on goal in Point Loma's nine shots. The Storm also had nine shots with two being on goal in the first half.

The Sea Lions came out blazing in the second half and scored two goals in the first 10 minutes. Paul Fuchs took a throw in on the left side of the field and tied the game in the 49th minute before Austin Fares put home a point blank shot on a Jeff Surbin free kick. Flares added another goal in the 72nd minute off a deflection before putting away by completing his natural hat trick in the 86th minute. Flares got a breakaway and put the game on ice and gave the Sea Lions a 4-1 win.

After Tyler Wythe didn't have to not make a save in the first half, Blake Anderson came in for SNU and had to make six saves after Point Loma put 11 of their 15 second-half shots on goal. The Storm took 18 shots total and put four on goal.

The Crimson Storm will now complete their three-game road trip out west when they play at Vanguard for a Monday game at 8 p.m. (CST).
