BRANSON, Mo. — Southern Nazarene didn't waste any time Friday as it put its two opponents away in just two hours combined. SNU opened the C of O Mazzio's Classic with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-21) win over Bethany (Kan.) before rolling Lyon (Ark.), 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-11).
Taylor Jacobs posted her second match of the year with at least a .700 hitting percentage in the win over Bethany. The sophomore ripped a .739 clip (17-0-23) and added three blocks, three digs and an ace as well for the Crimson Storm (5-1). She was the only Storm in double-figure kills as the wealth was spread to nine different players who recorded kills.
Natalia Oliveira notched seven kills with 10 digs and a pair of aces while
Kira Roberts had six kills.
Kaylee Paiatt and
Skylar Blackburn split setting duties as Piatt led the way with 17 assists while Blackburn had 14.
Ellen Martin and
KateLyn Biddy each served a trio of aces as well.
As a team SNU hit .398 and recorded 40 digs.
In the nightcap, Martin and Oliveira combined for 24 of SNU's 40 kills against Lyon. Martin led the way with 13 kills as she hit at a .591 clip (13-0-22). Oliveira recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Piatt recorded a match-high 27 assists and was just a dig short of a double-double with nine. Biddy had a match-high 18 digs.
The Storm hit over .300 for the second straight match, firing a .362 (40-6-94).
SNU will now close the classic, Saturday, with a pair of contests at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. against McPherson (Kan.) and Midland (Neb.).
