Shane Heathcock earned his first career All-American nod

MARION, Ind. — Southern Nazarene will walk away from the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships with a bit of hardware after Shane Heathcock earned All-American status in the pole vault and nearly had two with a just miss in discus.

Heathcock, who is just a freshman, cleared a height of 5.05 meters to take third and gain his first All-American nod.

Dante Campbell was just one-tenth of a meter away from being the second All-American as he recorded a 49.14-meter throw in the discus. The top six are named All-American and Campbell took seventh. Travis Boyd finished 19th in the shot put at 15.36 meters and 24th in the hammer throw with a 48.51-meter toss.

Jackie Stevens also competed in the javelin, as she took 26th with a throw of 28.38 meters. Scott Irvin also competed in the pole vault, but missed the starting height at 4.6 meters.

The Crimson Storm picked up eight points on the men's side and finished in a tie for 34th. The women did not earn any points.

Every Storm athlete that earned a spot at the national championship, will return for the 2011-12 season.
