Crimson Storm Opens Outdoor Season Strong at Oklahoma Baptist Invitational

Abriel Thrash and Micky McAlexander earn NCAA provisional marks in the heptathlon, while Colter Bufford secures a provisional in the javelin

SHAWNEE, Okla. - The Crimson Storm opened up their outdoor season competing at the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational in Shawnee, Oklahoma. SNU turned in a strong meet with solid finishes across the board and multiple NCAA provisional marks on both the men's and women's sides.

On the women's side, Abriel Thrash and Micky McAlexander led the way in the heptathlon, each earning NCAA provisional marks. Thrash won the event with 5,024 points, while McAlexander placed second with 4,729 points.

In the distance events, Elizabeth Harmon led SNU in the 800 meters with a time of 2:33.66, while Reagan Rowton followed in 2:52.52. In the 1500 meters, Abby Salter paced the Storm with a 5:31.32, followed by Harmon at 5:36.66 and Kaylee Eberhart at 6:40.86.

Mati Fowler led the Storm in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.96, while Deraya Collier posted an 18.14 and Emmi Robertson added a 19.74. In the 400-meter hurdles, Tylie Thrash recorded a 1:09.59, followed by Mati Fowler at 1:11.31 and Deraya Collier at 1:23.15.

The 4x100 relay team of Remi Murray, Alexis Williams, Jazzmine Pinto, and Shyla Navarre finished sixth with a time of 50.59. In the 4x400 relay, the team of Mati Fowler, Tylie Thrash, Alexis Williams, and Deraya Collier placed eighth with a time of 4:18.90.

In the field events, May Pachner won the pole vault, clearing 3.55 meters (11' 7.75"), while Shyla Navarre placed second at 3.40 meters, Remi Murray finished third at 3.10 meters, and Jazzmine Pinto took fourth at 2.95 meters. Ivy Brennan cleared 1.48 meters (4' 10.25") in the high jump.

Lexi Atteberry had a strong day in the throws, placing third in the shot put with a mark of 12.94 meters (42' 5.5") and third in the discus at 42.38 meters (139' 0"), while also recording 37.08 meters (121' 8") in the hammer throw. Sarah Herring added a mark of 33.72 meters (110' 7") in the discus. In the javelin, Shyla Navarre placed third with a throw of 35.28 meters (115' 9").

On the men's side, Quinton Zirretta led the Storm in the 100 meters with a second-place finish and a time of 10.45. James Beasley followed with a 10.75, while Patrick Uzzle ran 10.95, Ian Locke posted an 11.11, Jessiah Burris added an 11.12, and Stephen Joshua recorded an 11.30.

In the 200 meters, Beasley led SNU with a time of 21.70 to place eighth, while Michael Styles followed at 21.87 and Josh Montelongo ran 22.89. Montelongo also competed in the 400 meters, finishing with a time of 51.63, while Elijah Petties recorded a 55.50.

Keith Howerton led the Storm in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.10, and Myles Mayfield posted a 5:16.79 in the 1500.

In the hurdles, Terrance Green recorded a 17.51 in the 110 hurdles, followed by Gabe Rush at 17.57. Green also led the Storm in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:02.70, while Ke'Lin Kearney finished with a time of 1:03.42.

The 4x100 relay team of Quinton Zirretta, James Beasley, Terrance Green, and Michael Styles placed second with a time of 41.50. In the 4x400 relay, the team of Beasley, Green, Styles, and Burris placed 10th with a time of 3:36.50.

In the field events, Maddex Merwin won the pole vault with a clearance of 4.30 meters (14' 1.25"). In the high jump, Gabe Rush cleared 1.90 meters (6' 2.75"), while Dillion Breckenridge cleared 1.75 meters (5' 8.75").

Patrick Uzzle led the Storm in the long jump with a mark of 6.87 meters (22' 6.5"), followed by Jessiah Burris at 6.42 meters (21' 0.75"), Gabe Rush at 6.38 meters (20' 11.25"), Gary Russell at 6.37 meters (20' 10.75"), and Dillion Breckenridge at 5.87 meters (19' 3.25"). In the triple jump, Burris posted a mark of 12.97 meters (42' 6.75"), while Uzzle recorded 12.35 meters (40' 6.25").

In the throws, Ian Locke recorded a mark of 10.73 meters (35' 2.5") in the shot put, while Gabe Rush added a throw of 9.11 meters (29' 10.75"). Johnaton Haywood led SNU in the discus with a mark of 41.84 meters (137' 3").

Colter Bufford highlighted the meet in the javelin, placing second with a throw of 61.30 meters (201' 1") and earning an NCAA provisional mark. Ian Locke also placed eighth in the javelin with a mark of 42.24 meters (138' 7").

The Crimson Storm will travel to Austin, Texas to compete in the Texas Relays hosted by the University of Texas on April 1-5.
