Storm Shine at Crimson and Cream Qualifier

McAlexander and Thrash earn NCAA provisional marks as Southern Nazarene stacks up personal bests across the board in Norman

NORMAN, Okla. - The Crimson Storm track and field traveled to Norman to compete in the Crimson and Cream Qualifier, hosted by the University of Oklahoma, and turned in a strong day filled with personal bests and NCAA provisional marks on both the men's and women's sides.

On the women's side, Micky McAlexander led the way with a huge performance in the pentathlon. She won the event with a personal record 3733 points, earning an NCAA provisional mark in the process. Abriel Thrash also had a big day in the pentathlon, placing third with 3524 points and earning her own NCAA provisional mark.

Alexis Williams had a standout meet in the sprints, recording a personal best 26.46 in the 200 meters to place seventh. She followed that up with another PR in the 400 meters, clocking 1:01.34 to finish third overall. Tylie Thrash added a PR of her own in the 400, running 1:04.15 for ninth place, while Mati Fowler posted a personal best 1:05.33 to finish 12th.

In the mile, Elizabeth Harmon led the Storm with a time of 6:10.57 to place 17th. Abby Salter recorded a PR of 6:22.02 for 18th, and Kaylee Eberhart crossed in 7:09.41.

Mati Fowler ran a personal best 9.76 in the 60-meter hurdles prelims to place sixth, while Emmi Robertson posted a PR of 10.33 in the finals to finish ninth overall.

The 4x400 relay team of Shyla Navarre, Tylie Thrash, Mati Fowler, and Alexis Williams put together a strong race, finishing second with a time of 4:09.85.

In the field events, Navarre cleared 3.45 meters (11' 3.75") in the pole vault to place eighth. In the throws, McAlexander added a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 13.49 meters (44' 3.25"). Lexi Atteberry placed ninth in the shot put at 12.54 meters (41' 1.75") and recorded a PR in the weight throw at 11.18 meters (36' 8.25"). Sarah Herring also posted a PR in the weight throw with a mark of 13.38 meters (43' 10.75") to place 16th.

On the men's side, Quinton Zirretta highlighted the sprints with a personal best 6.83 in the 60-meter finals to finish second overall. He also ran 6.91 in prelims and added a PR in the long jump with a mark of 6.43 meters (21' 1.25"), placing 18th. James Beasley posted a PR of 7.11 in the 60-meter prelims and later ran a personal best 22.86 in the 200 meters to place fifth. Gabe Rush added a PR of 23.69 in the 200 and ran 9.25 in the 60-meter hurdles prelims.

In the 400 meters, Ke'Lin Kearney placed eighth in 53.65, while Kobie Green recorded a PR of 59.62. Keith Howerton led the Storm in the 800 meters with a time of 2:04.04, and Terrance Green added a PR of 2:09.99. Myles Mayfield posted a personal best 11:32.61 in the 3,000 meters to place ninth.

In the hurdles, Jo'Quan Howard ran a PR of 8.70 in the 60-meter hurdles prelims before finishing ninth in the finals at 8.86.

The 4x400 relay team of James Beasley, Jessiah Burris, Terrance Green, and Ke'Lin Kearney placed third with a time of 3:27.88, while another Storm squad finished sixth in 3:31.47.

In the field events, Maddex Merwin cleared 4.45 meters (14' 7.25") in the pole vault to place fifth. Jessiah Burris recorded a PR of 6.61 meters (21' 8.25") in the long jump to finish 13th and added an eighth-place finish in the triple jump at 13.27 meters (43' 6.5"). Gary Russell posted a mark of 6.32 meters (20' 9") in the long jump, while Dillion Breckenridge jumped 5.76 meters (18' 10.75").

In the throws, Colter Bufford placed fifth in the shot put with a mark of 13.79 meters (45' 3"). Ian Locke recorded a PR of 10.96 meters (35' 11.5") in the shot put and later threw 12.19 meters (40' 0") in the weight throw. Johnaton Haywood added a mark of 12.26 meters (40' 2.75") in the weight throw.

The Crimson Storm will travel to Conway, Arkansas to compete in the Hendrix Invitational hosted by Hendrix College on Saturday, March 7.
