Evangels Hold Off Storm

Southern Nazarene fell 4-3 to Mid-America Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — James Tunnell went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and one run scored for Southern Nazarene in a 4-3 loss to Mid-America Christian.
 
The Crimson Storm (13-18, 6-15 SAC) trailed from start to finish, but made a charge in the fourth inning after falling behind 4-3 through the first three innings.
 
MACU scored first on a solo home run in the bottom of the first. The Evangels added three more in the third on back-to-back singles to take a 4-0 lead.
 
Southern Nazarene answered in the top of the fourth, on consecutive hits by Tunnell and Aadm Bies. Derek Glenn led of the inning with a single and Ryan Williams put runners at first and second when he was hit by a pitch. Tunnell then laced a double that scored both Glenn and Williams before Bies drove home Tunnell with a single. Derek Johnson then hit into a double play to end the inning.
 
SNU had just two hits and three base runners the rest of the way.
 
The Evangels' Ivan Juvera (2-3) tossed the complete game allowing three runs on six hits in nine innings of work as he picked up the win. Jake Bidelman (1-6) took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in 2.1 innings of work.
 
Southern Nazarene will host the same Mid-America Christian team Friday for a 3 p.m. SAC contest inside the Cypert Athletic Complex.
