CLAREMORE, Okla. — Southern Nazarene held a three-run lead through the top of the fourth in both games of a doubleheader with No. 20 Rogers State, but RSU rallied in both games winning the first, 4-3, in nine innings before scoring six unanswered runs in the second to win 8-5.
The Crimson Storm (15-24, 7-20 SAC) led 3-0 in the opener and 5-2 in the nightcap to complete the three-game series sweep.
SNU took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth of the opener on a triple to right field that scored two before Glenn scored on a Hillcat error. The Storm held the 3-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth when RSU got one back on a sacrifice fly and tied on a triple that drove in two more runs.
Neither team scored the next two innings as the game ventured into extra innings. SNU had runners at second and third with two outs in the top of the ninth, but couldn't push a runner across. RSU then got a walk off single from Brandt Barnes in the bottom of the ninth to take the win.
Chase Glaum went 2-for-4 while James Tunnell went 2-for-5. Glenn was the only player to drive in a run with two RBIs. Jake Bidelman took the loss after giving up one run on two hits in two innings of work after coming on in relief of starter Jake Mitcheltree to start the seventh. Mitcheltree allowed three runs and scattered eight hits in six innings of work.
The Storm left 11 runners on base and committed two errors in the loss.
The Storm nearly did the same thing in the nightcap after taking a 5-2 lead in the top of the fourth. SNU scored four runs in the top of the second to lead 4-2. Austin Samulowitz and Alex Hill both drew bases loaded walks before Glenn singled to right and Glaum hit into a fielder's choice to give the Storm the two-run lead. SNU added another in the fifth on another Glenn single, but RSU scored three in the bottom of the fourth to tie it and put it away with one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Glenn and Adam Bies were the only players to record a hit as Glenn went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Bies went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Bidelman also took the loss after giving up four runs, three earned, on four hits in three innings of work.
The Storm will now close the season next week with a three-game series with Oklahoma Christian. SNU will travel to OC, Thursday, for a 6:30 p.m. game before hosting the Eagles, Saturday, for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
