BETHANY, Okla. — Chase Glaum and
James Tunnell combined to drive in both of Southern Nazarene's two runs in an 11-2 loss to No. 20 Roger State, Thursday afternoon, at the Cypert Athletic Complex.
The Crimson Storm (15-22, 7-18 SAC) scored both runs in the third inning, but were held scoreless the rest of the way as the Hillcats (39-10, 17-8 SAC) didn't give up a hit from outside of the third inning.
RSU would have thrown a combined no-hitter outside of the third as Grant Cosby (6-1) picked up the win in seven innings of work. He allowed both runs and all three hits, but struck out 12 including five of the first six batters he faced.
Garrett Callan (0-2) took the loss for the Storm after allowed eight runs, five earned, on seven hits in six innings of work.
Adam Bies struck out four in three innings of relief.
Rogers State scored the first two runs of the game when Cody Campbell ripped a two-out single up the middle to give the Hillcats a 2-0 lead through the top of the first. RSU added two more in the third on a wild pitch and a sac fly to lead 4-0.
SNU got on the board in the bottom of the third when Glaum roped a two-out single up the middle to score
Austin Samulowitz from second. Tunnell drove in another run as he followed Glaum with another two-out single into left that scored
Alex Hill from third as SNU cut it to 4-2.
Colton Campbell led off the fourth with a shot to left field as RSU took a 5-2 lead before Lance Rymel hit a two-out home run in the sixth to make it 6-2. The Hillcats added two more in the top of the seventh and two in the eight before scoring one more in the ninth to put it away.
The Storm will now head to Claremore, Okla., for a return trip as they will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader with RSU.
