Box Score

BETHANY, Calif. —
It has been a night and day difference from the last three weeks to the first two for Southern Nazarene as the SNU won its sixth straight game with a 6-4 win over Iowa Wesleyan.

The Crimson Storm (8-7) got a complete-game performance from John Basnight (2-1) who struck out nine and walked just one batter in nine innings of work. He allowed just three earned runs.

Adam Bies went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Derek Glenn and Chase Glaum each went 1-for with an RBI.

The Tigers (6-9) scored first with a run in the top of the second, but the Crimson Storm answered with four in the bottom of the second. James Tunnell, Bies and Derek Johnson ripped three straight singles to lead off the inning as Bies' single drove in Tunnell. Austin Samulowitz loaded the bases with a bunt single before Glenn's single to right gave SNU a 2-1 lead. A wild pitch scored Ryan McIntosh, who ran for Johnson, before Glaum's single to right center drove home Samulowitz for the final run of the inning.

SNU added two more in the third when Bies blasted his third home run of the year to right center that scored Ryon Butts as SNU led 6-1.

The Storm turned it over to Basnight who held off the Tigers down the stretch.

IWC left 10 on base as they left two in the second and three in the fourth. The Tigers loaded the bases with one out in the fourth before Basnight struck out the final two batters to get out of the inning. After Michael Mendoza led off the sixth with a home run to cut it to 6-2, IWC got a single and a one out walk before Basnight induced a double play to get out of the sixth.

The Tigers picked up another run with a sac fly in the seventh and again had runners on first and second with two outs, but Basnight struck out the final batter to pick up the win.

The Storm step back into Sooner Athletic Conference play tomorrow when they travel to USAO for a 3 p.m. game.
