SNU took OBU to extra innings, but the Bison still swept a doubleheader

SHAWNEE, Okla. — Adam Bies went 3-for-7 with an RBI double and a run scored for Southern Nazarene as Oklahoma Baptist swept a doubleheader from SNU, 3-2 and 6-1.
 
The Crimson Storm (12-14, 5-11 SAC) forced extra innings in the opener before getting held to just one run in the nightcap.
 
SNU  jumped on the scoreboard first in the top of the second of the first game when Derek Johnson laid down a sacrifice squeeze that scored Bies from third. The Bison tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third with a bases loaded single.
 
Southern Nazarene retook the lead at 2-1 in the top of the fifth on a passed ball that scored Chase Glaum from third. Glaum notched a one-out double to right center and then went to third on a ground out. After Ryan Williams drew a two-out walk the Storm got the passed ball to take the lead. OBU answered though in the bottom half of the inning when Terrence Buchanan singled to right to score Jorden Newton to tie the game.
 
It stayed at 2-2 through the eighth inning and SNU had a runner at first when Glenn ripped a one-out single in the top of the ninth, but the Storm left a runner stranded and headed into the bottom of the ninth. Reece Alnas reached base on a Storm error to start the inning, but Johnson threw him out at second on a stolen base attempt to clear the bases. OBU then got back-to-back singles to put runners at second before Chris Lemus drove home the winning run with a single up the middle as the Bison survived in extra innings.
 
Glaum was 2-for-5 with a run scored while Bies, James Tunnell, Johnson and Glenn all recorded hits. Chris Eastham (5-1) took the loss after coming on in relief of Tim Cole who threw the first seven innings of the game. Cole Allowed just two runs on three hits and struck out five before Eastham tossed the final 1.1 innings allowed one run on four hits.
 
SNU also took the first lead in the second game when Bies roped a single to right to score Glenn as SNU took a 1-0 lead. That was the last lead the Storm had as the Bison answered with three in the bottom of the first and then added two in the third and one in the fourth and cruised from there.
 
Bies went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Glaum, Williams, Johnson and Hill all recorded hits. John Basnight (2-2) took the loss after allowing three earned runs, six total, on seven hits in six innings of work.
 
The Crimson Storm will now travel to Central Oklahoma for a 2 p.m. game Tuesday.
