BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene won back-to-back games for the second time this year and both games were on opposite sides of the spectrum in a 3-1, 13-3 doubleheader sweep of Briar Cliff (Iowa).
The Crimson Storm (4-7) got a four-hit game out of
John Basnight in the opener, before the Crimson Storm hit five home runs in a 13-3 game shortened to five innings by way of the mercy rule.
Basnight (1-1) picked up his first win as a Crimson Storm after he went the complete seven innings allowing just one run in the first game.
The Crimson Storm struck first in the bottom of the second when
Austin Samulowitz traded places with
James Tunnell who doubled as well as SNU took a 1-0 lead. The Chargers tied the game in the top of the fourth when John Elliot hit a solo home run to right field, but SNU put it away with two runs in the fifth. After
Chase Glaum reached on a two-out single up the middle and
Ryan Williams was hit by a pitch,
Ryon Butts ripped a double down the left field line to score both and give SNU a 3-1 advantage and held on to that lead the rest of the way.
In the nightcap, SNU's power game made an appearance the Storm scored 10 runs in the first two innings. BCU quickly jumped out on Southern Nazarene, scoring three runs in the top of the first, but the Storm answered with six in the bottom half of the inning. After a bases loaded error brought home SNU's first run of the inning, Tunnell sacrificed to center to make it 3-2.
Adam Bies then sent a rocket over the left field fence with a three-run shot to make it 5-3.
Derek Johnson made it 6-3 hitting the second of two straight home runs.
SNU scored four more in the second with three runs coming off of back-to-back-to-back home runs from Butts, Tunnell and Bies before

Ryan McIntosh, who ran for Johnson, as the Storm took a 10-3 lead.
The Crimson Storm scored the run rule with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. A Samulowitz sac fly to center scored the first run before Hill took a pitch the opposite way down the right field line to drive home the mercy rule run.
