Storm Shutdown in Alva

Northwestern gave up two runs in the first inning and then nothing else the rest of the way

ALVA, Okla. — Ryon Butts went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Southern Nazarene in a 7-2 loss to Northwestern Oklahoma State, Friday afternoon.

Both of the Crimson Storm's (10-10, 4-7 SAC) were scored in the first inning, but the Rangers (17-9, 3-7 SAC) held SNU scoreless the rest of the way.

After Chase Glaum notched a one-out single up the middle, Ryan Williams followed him up with a single through the left side to put runners at first and second. Butts then singled down the left field line to score Glaum and a Ranger error allowed Williams to score as well. That was all the offense SNU had though as NWOSU starter Chase Phelps (2-1) allowed just five more hits the rest of the way and kept six more Storm on base. Phelps went the complete game and allowed just one earned run, scattered eight hits and struck out seven.

Jake Bidelman (1-3) took the loss for SNU after allowing three earned runs, six total, on five hits as he through the first 5.1 innings.

Both Williams and Adam Bies each went 2-for-4 while Glaum and Austin Samulowitz each recorded a hit.

NWOSU took over the game with a four-run third inning and then added two in the sixth and one in the seventh to run away with the win.

The Crimson will now host Northwestern Oklahoma State, Saturday, for a 1 p.m. doubleheader
