Box Score

BETHANY — Southern Nazarene needed this win. Not just for position in the Sooner Athletic Conference, but for a vote of confidence that they could put back-to-back wins together and the Crimson Storm did that with a 4-2 win over Oklahoma Christian.

The Storm (4-8, 3-4 SAC) got two goals each from Nick Chafey and Blake Rodgers as the two underclassmen lead the team in scoring as Rodgers has eight goals while Chafey has four.

Kenton Farris also posted a pair of saves while Ryan Allen, Isaac Juarez, Edgar Pineda, Jakob Jones and Rodgers all assisted on goals.

Chafey put SNU on the board in the 19th minute when Allen pushed the ball forward past midfield and played a pass forward that just clipped Pineda who played it towards Chafey. The Storm carried that lead into half before it was Chafey again who took a pass from Rodgers and buried in the back of the net in the 58th minute to make it a 2-0 game.

Rodgers answered just more than 10 minutes later when Juarez controlled the ball in space just past midfield. Juarez looked to be shooting at first, but saw Rodgers just to the left and led him with a perfect pass before Rodgers put it home to give the Storm the 3-0 advantage.

Neil Hilton answered for Oklahoma Christian just two minutes later on a penalty kick to make it 3-1, but it took SNU just 24 seconds as Jones played a long ball forward from the other side of midfield and found Rodgers running for daylight. The freshman then beat OC's Tim Spencer, who made one save, to the bottom left side as SNU held a 4-1 lead.

Down Towner added an unassisted goal in the 75th minute on a controversial call, but that was as close as OC came.

The Crimson Storm now get set for the final home game of the regular season when they host Mid-America Christian for an 8 p.m. contest.
