Crimson Storm Turn in Strong Showing at OU Alumni Open

Southern Nazarene posts multiple top finishes and personal bests across men’s and women’s competition in Norman

NORMAN, Okla. - Southern Nazarene competed at the OU Alumni Open, hosted by the University of Oklahoma, on Saturday afternoon, turning in a number of strong performances across both the men's and women's squads.

On the men's side, Quinton Zirretta highlighted the day in the 100 meters with a runner-up finish, clocking a 10.54. James Beasley followed with a time of 10.82 to place 10th, while Ian Locke finished 15th in 11.21.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Terrance Green led the Storm with a sixth-place finish, crossing in 16.83.

The 200 meters saw Jessiah Burris post a personal-best time of 22.46 for 14th place. Green followed in 16th at 23.05, while Gary Russell added a personal-best mark of 23.25 to finish 17th.

In distance events, Myles Mayfield represented SNU in the 1500 meters, finishing 16th with a time of 5:17.49.

In the field events, Gabe Rush delivered a strong performance in the high jump, clearing a personal-best height of 1.96 meters to place sixth. In the long jump, Gary Russell led the way with a mark of 6.29 meters for ninth place.

The javelin throw was a highlight for the Storm, as Jessiah Burris placed third with a personal-best throw of 42.90 meters, while Zack Johnson followed closely in fourth with a personal-best mark of 41.06 meters.

Maddex Merwin added a ninth-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 4.30 meters.

In the throws, Johnaton Haywood paced SNU in the discus with a ninth-place mark of 47.74 meters and also competed in the hammer throw, posting a distance of 39.82 meters.

On the women's side, Alexis Williams led the way in the sprints, finishing seventh in the 100 meters with a season-best time of 12.47.

Tylie Thrash turned in a strong performance in the 400-meter hurdles, placing eighth with a personal-best time of 1:08.59.

In the 800 meters, Elizabeth Harmon led the Storm with a time of 2:28.66, while Reagan Rowton followed in 2:47.80. Abby Salter added a 14th-place finish in the 1500 meters, crossing in 5:44.02.

Kaylee Eberhart delivered one of the top finishes of the day for SNU, placing fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 17:14.04.

In the field events, Abriel Thrash highlighted the high jump with a fourth-place clearance of 1.63 meters, while Shyla Navarre posted a season-best mark of 3.57 meters in the pole vault to finish eighth and added a seventh-place throw of 31.97 meters in the javelin.

Micky McAlexander turned in a standout performance in the shot put, placing third with a season-best throw of 14.10 meters. Lexi Atteberry followed with a seventh-place mark of 13.32 meters and also competed in the discus (42.76 meters) and hammer throw (29.59 meters).

The Crimson Storm will turn their focus to the Great American Conference Championships, set for Wednesday, April 29 through Friday, May 1 in Searcy, Arkansas.
