Storm Turn in Strong Showing at Pitt State Tune-Up

Zirretta sets outdoor school record as SNU posts multiple top finishes on both sides in Pittsburg

PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Crimson Storm traveled to Pittsburg, Kansas to compete in the Pitt State Tune-Up, turning in strong performances across both the men's and women's sides, highlighted by a school record on the track.

On the men's side, SNU opened the meet in the 100 meters with Patrick Uzzle leading the way, placing seventh in 10.89 after running 10.88 in the preliminaries. James Beasley followed with a time of 10.96, while Ian Locke finished in 11.15, Maximus Washington posted 11.21, and Gabe Rush crossed in 11.61.

In the 200 meters, Quinton Zirretta delivered a standout performance, placing sixth in 21.31 while breaking the outdoor school record. Michael Styles followed closely in 10th with a time of 21.43, while Beasley added a 16th-place finish in 21.75. Uzzle ran 22.25, with Ke'Lin Kearney finishing in 23.11, Stephen Joshua in 23.36, and Washington in 23.71.

Styles continued to lead SNU in the 400 meters with a time of 48.52 for 15th place. Terrance Green followed in 50.43, while Jessiah Burris posted 50.78, Kearney ran 51.43, and Gary Russell finished in 54.14.

In distance events, Keith Howerton paced the Storm in the 1500 meters with an eighth-place finish in 4:13.59.

In the hurdles, Terrance Green recorded a time of 16.68 in the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries.

The 4x100 relay team of Ian Locke, Terrance Green, Jessiah Burris, and Maximus Washington placed third with a time of 42.17.

In the field events, Gabe Rush led SNU in the high jump, clearing 1.92 meters (6' 3.5"). Maddex Merwin placed 12th in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.33 meters (14' 2.5"). In the long jump, Uzzle led the Storm with a mark of 6.52 meters (21' 4.75"), followed by Burris at 6.19 meters, Gary Russell at 5.95 meters, and Dillion Breckenridge at 5.93 meters.

In the throws, Johnaton Haywood posted a mark of 44.23 meters in the discus and added a throw of 39.47 meters in the hammer. Ian Locke led SNU in the javelin with a mark of 44.62 meters (146' 5").
On the women's side, Alexis Williams led SNU in the sprints, running 12.69 in the 100-meter preliminaries and placing 15th in the 200 meters with a time of 25.77.

In the 800 meters, Tylie Thrash delivered a strong performance with a sixth-place finish in 2:28.65.

In the hurdles, Micky McAlexander led the Storm with a time of 15.52 in the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries, followed closely by Abriel Thrash in 15.57. Mati Fowler posted 15.96, while Emmi Robertson finished in 16.70.

In the field events, Shyla Navarre cleared 3.53 meters (11' 7") in the pole vault. Abriel Thrash highlighted the long jump with a fifth-place finish at 5.71 meters (18' 9"), while McAlexander added a mark of 5.06 meters.

McAlexander also delivered a strong showing in the throws, placing seventh in the shot put with a mark of 12.83 meters and ninth in the javelin with a throw of 36.04 meters.

The Crimson Storm will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas to compete in the John McDonnell Invitational hosted by University of Arkansas on Friday, April 24th.
