Crimson Storm Compete at Oklahoma Classic in Norman

Southern Nazarene turns in strong performances across men’s and women’s events at the University of Oklahoma-hosted meet

NORMAN, Okla. - Southern Nazarene track and field competed Friday at the Oklahoma Classic, hosted by the University of Oklahoma, turning in a productive day with strong performances across both the men's and women's events.

On the women's side, Tylie Thrash continued a solid indoor campaign in the 600 yards, placing fourth overall with a time of 1:32.03. Micky McAlexander followed closely behind, finishing fifth in 1:33.49. In the mile, Kaylee Eberhart represented the Crimson Storm well, crossing the line in 7:01.48 to place eighth.

McAlexander also competed in the hurdles, advancing from the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries with a time of 9.60 before finishing ninth in the finals at 9.67. In the field, Shyla Navarre had a standout performance in the pole vault, clearing 3.60 meters (11' 9.75") to place third.

The throws group highlighted the day once again, led by McAlexander's big showing in the shot put. She placed fourth with a mark of 14.35 meters (47' 1"), earning an NCAA provisional mark. Sarah Herring added a 15th-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 12.01 meters (39' 5").

On the men's side, Quinton Zirretta led the sprints, advancing from the 60-meter preliminaries in 7.02 before finishing seventh in the finals with a time of 6.98. Stephen Joshua also competed in the event, clocking a 7.25 in prelims.

In the 200 meters, Terrance Green placed seventh with a time of 23.24, while Zirretta ran 23.34 and Joshua finished in 24.04. In the 400 meters Kobie Green placed 19th with a time of 1:00.48.

Green added another strong performance in the 600 yards, placing fourth with a time of 1:17.61. 

Andres Young finished sixth in the 800 meters at 2:01.47, while Myles Mayfield ran 5:23.86 in the mile.

In the field events, Johnaton Haywood led the men's throws with a 12th-place finish in the weight throw, recording a mark of 13.42 meters (44' 0.5"), while Ian Locke followed closely behind in 13th at 12.61 meters (41' 4.5").

The Crimson Storm will travel to Pittsburg, Kansas to compete in the Gorilla Classic hosted by Pittsburg State on February 13-14.
