Storm Compete at Gorilla Classic

Styles Breaks Indoor 400m Record as Storm Compete in Pittsburg

PITTSBURG, Kan. - Southern Nazarene track and field traveled to Pittsburg to compete in the Gorilla Classic hosted by Pittsburg State University on February 13-14, turning in strong performances on both the men's and women's sides.

On the women's side, Micky McAlexander led the way in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a 9.62 in the prelims. Mati Fowler also competed in the event and finished in 9.93.
The 4x400 relay team of Shyla Navarre, Tylie Thrash, McAlexander, and Abriel Thrash placed 25th overall with a time of 4:03.94.

In the field events, Navarre had a huge day in the pole vault, winning the event with a personal best clearance of 3.68 meters (12' 0.75").

The throws group continued to compete well, highlighted by McAlexander's eighth place finish in the shot put with a mark of 13.77 meters (45' 2.25"), earning an NCAA provisional mark. 

On the men's side, the sprints group had a busy weekend in the 60 meters. Patrick Uzzle led the way with a 7.15, followed by Jo'Quan Howard at 7.20. Jessiah Burris and Ian Locke each ran 7.26, Maximus Washington finished in 7.31, and Gary Russell crossed in 7.59.

Washington paced the Storm in the 200 meters with a time of 22.76. Terrance Green followed at 23.09, while Burris finished in 23.16.

Michael Styles had a standout performance in the 400 meters, placing 11th with a time of 48.31 while also breaking Southern Nazarene's indoor school record in the event.

In the 800 meters, Andres Young clocked a 2:01.16. In the 60-meter hurdles, Gabe Rush led the way with a 9.35, followed by Howard at 9.46 and Green at 9.60.

The 4x400 relay team of James Beasley, Green, Washington, and Styles turned in a strong performance, finishing 13th overall with a time of 3:18.86.

In the field events, Rush cleared 1.93 meters (6' 4") in the high jump to place fifth. Maddex Merwin cleared 4.30 meters (14' 1.25") in the pole vault to finish eighth.
Uzzle recorded a mark of 6.51 meters (21' 4.25") in the long jump. In the triple jump, Burris placed 15th with a leap of 13.40 meters (43' 11.75"), while Uzzle followed closely in 16th at 13.38 meters (43' 10.75").

In the throws, Colter Bufford led the way in the shot put with a mark of 13.88 meters (45' 6.5"), finishing 24th overall.
