SNU Competes at Washburn Open

McAlexander highlights weekend with NCAA provisional and pentathlon PR

TOPEKA, Kan. - Southern Nazarene University competed at the Washburn Open on Friday and Saturday, turning in a strong weekend on the track and in the field with several solid performances across both the men's and women's events.

On the men's side, Michael Styles led the way in the sprints. Styles clocked a 6.87 in the 60 meters prelims and followed it up with a 6.88 in the semifinals. He also competed in the 200 meters, finishing with a time of 22.47. Patrick Uzzle joined Styles in the 60 meters prelims, posting a time of 7.19.

In the middle distances, Maximus Washington ran 51.63 in the 400 meters, while Andres Young turned in a time of 2:01.89 in the 800 meters.
In the field events, Jessiah Burris had a strong showing in the triple jump, placing 23rd with a mark of 13.75 meters (45' 1.5").

On the women's side, Tylie Thrash represented the Storm in the 600 yards, finishing 17th with a time of 1:31.74.
The throws group had another productive day. Lexi Atteberry placed 19th in the shot put with a mark of 11.65 meters (38' 2.75"), while Sarah Herring finished 42nd in the shot put at 8.86 meters and added a 34th place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 12.42 meters (40' 9").

Micky McAlexander highlighted the weekend with a big performance in the pentathlon, placing fourth with 3,538 points. McAlexander also set a personal record in the pentathlon and earned an NCAA provisional mark.

The Crimson Storm will continue their indoor season as they travel to Norman, Oklahoma to compete at the Oklahoma Classic hosted by the University of Oklahoma Friday, February 6.
