Storm Posts Strong Performances at JD Martin Invitational

Styles and McAlexander lead Southern Nazarene in Norman

NORMAN, Okla. - Southern Nazarene University competed at the JD Martin Invitational, hosted by the University of Oklahoma, turning in a solid day across both the men's and women's events with top finishes and personal bests.

On the men's side, Michael Styles highlighted the meet with a strong showing on the track. Styles placed second in the 400 meters with a time of 50.07 and added a personal record in the 60 meters during prelims, clocking a 6.89 to finish second. Patrick Uzzle followed closely in the 60 prelims with a time of 7.05, while Jo'Quan Howard ran 7.14 and James Beasley posted a 7.17.

The Storm found success in the 200 meters as well, led by Josh Montelongo, who placed fifth with a time of 23.13. Beasley finished eighth in 23.69, Jo'Quan Howard ran 24.00, and Killian Smith crossed in 24.35. In the 400 meters, Maximus Washington finished eighth at 52.17, while Ke'Lin Kearney (53.10), Brendan Cravens (53.23), and Gabe Rush (55.41) added solid performances.

In the hurdles, Jo'Quan Howard paced SNU in the 60 hurdles prelims with a time of 9.08, followed by Colton Modisette at 9.39 and Gabe Rush at 9.64. In the field events, Gary Russell placed 11th in the long jump with a mark of 6.57 meters, while Dillion Breckenridge added a 5.94 meter jump. 

The throws group saw Ian Locke finish ninth in the shot put at 10.36 meters, while Jonaton Haywood placed ninth in the weight throw with a mark of 13.62 meters.

On the women's side, Micky McAlexander continued her strong season with a personal best performance in the 800 meters, placing fourth with a time of 2:26.41. Abriel Thrash followed with a sixth place finish in 2:31.66. Thrash also had a strong day in the hurdles, finishing sixth in the 60 hurdles finals section with a time of 9.36 after a 9.49 in prelims.


In the sprints, Alexis Williams ran 27.30 in the 200 meters, while the 400 meters featured several Storm athletes, led by Shyla Navarre's 18th place finish at 1:03.29. Tylie Thrash (1:04.55), Alexis Williams (1:05.15), and Mati Fowler (1:07.16) followed close behind. 

In the field, Navarre placed eighth in the pole vault after clearing 3.45 meters, and Jazzmine Pinto finished ninth at 3.15 meters. Abriel Thrash added a 16th place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.63 meters.

The throws were another bright spot for SNU, as Lexi Atteberry recorded a personal best in the shot put, placing fourth with a mark of 12.96 meters. Sarah Herring added a ninth place finish in the shot put at 8.90 meters and placed 12th in the weight throw with a mark of 12.53 meters.

The Crimson Storm will travel to Pittsburg, Kansas on Friday, January 23 to compete in the Rumble In The Jungle meet hosted by Pitt State.
