SNU Track and Field Competes at Owen Hewett Invitational

Crimson Storm turns in a full day of performances in Norman

NORMAN, Okla. - Southern Nazarene competed at the Owen Hewett Invitational on Friday in Norman, Oklahoma, turning in a full day of performances on both the men's and women's sides.

On the women's side, Alexis Williams competed in the 400 meters, finishing fifth in the invitational section with a time of 1:03.15. In the 800 meters, Tylie Thrash placed second after running 2:37.56, while Elizabeth Harmon followed in fourth with a time of 2:38.68. In the mile, Kaylee Eberhart ran 7:02.48.

The Storm had multiple athletes compete in the 60-meter hurdles. Abriel Thrash led the group with a time of 9.24, followed by Micky McAlexander at 9.76. Mati Fowler ran 10.30, and Ivy Brennan added an 11.37.

Southern Nazarene closed out the women's track events with the 4x400 relay. The team of Shyla Navarre, Alexis Williams, Micky McAlexander, and Abriel Thrash finished fourth with a time of 4:10.05. A second relay team of Tylie Thrash, Ivy Brennan, Mati Fowler, and Elizabeth Harmon finished eighth in 4:30.10.

In the field, McAlexander placed third in the shot put invite with a throw of 14.04 meters, while Abriel Thrash finished fifth at 13.04 meters. In the shot put open, Lexi Atteberry placed second with a mark of 12.39 meters, and Sarah Herring finished 21st at 8.63 meters.

In the high jump, Abriel Thrash cleared 1.60 meters in the invitational event, while McAlexander also cleared 1.60 meters and finished third in the open division. Ivy Brennan added a clearance of 1.45 meters. In the pole vault, Shyla Navarre finished sixth after clearing 3.60 meters.

On the men's side, Michael Styles highlighted the meet by winning the 400 meters with a time of 50.39. Josh Montelongo placed fourth in 51.76, and Maximus Washington finished fifth in 52.84.

In the sprints, James Beasley ran 7.16 in the 60 meters and followed with a seventh-place finish in the 200 meters at 23.49. Ke'Lin Kearney ran 23.74 in the 200 meters, while Gary Russell finished in 23.79 and Jessiah Burris ran 23.98.

In the 400 meters open, Kearney ran 54.50. Colton Modisette followed at 55.14, while Stephen Joshua finished in 55.22 and Killian Smith added a 56.57.
In the mile, Keith Howerton led the Storm with a ninth-place finish after running 4:41.48.

The men's 4x400 relay team of James Beasley, Maximus Washington, Josh Montelongo, and Michael Styles finished fifth with a time of 3:29.91.

In the field events, Gabe Rush and Brendan Cravens each cleared 1.84 meters in the high jump. In the long jump, Patrick Uzzle led SNU with a mark of 6.68 meters, while Brendan Cravens finished at 6.66 meters. Jessiah Burris jumped 13.51 meters in the triple jump. Colter Bufford placed seventh in the shot put invite with a throw of 14.55 meters.

The Crimson Storm will return to Norman, Oklahoma on Friday, January 23 to compete in the JD Martin invitational.
