Crimson Storm Secures No. 1 Seed as Giddey Headlines Awards

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Southern Nazarene Women's Basketball team continues to dominate the Great American Conference, securing its third consecutive GAC Regular Season Title while collecting eight GAC season honors. The Crimson Storm enters the GAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed after an impressive season, finishing 19-3 in conference play and 22-6 overall.

Hannah Giddey, a graduate student from Melbourne, Australia, had a standout year. She earned both GAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors. This is the first time a GAC women's player has collected both awards since 2013. This also marks Giddey's third straight season as the conference's top defender.

Giddey was a force for the Storm also earning unanimous First Team honors. She recorded 291 rebounds, 108 assists, and a conference leading 74 blocks across 28 games and 1,004 minutes. She also led the Storm with 439 points, good for fourth in the GAC this season.

Katie King, a graduate student from Harrah, Oklahoma, ran the Storm's offense and earned Honorable Mention All-GAC recognition. King played in 17 games this season, dishing out 61 assists and surpassing 300 career assists. She also contributed 157 points for Southern Nazarene this season.

Head Coach Trent May was once again named GAC Coach of the Year, earning the honor for the third straight season. May led Southern Nazarene to another dominant regular season, leading the team to a 22-6 overall record and a 19-3 mark in conference play.

Several Crimson Storm players were also recognized for their academic achievements, earning spots on the GAC Academic Honor Roll: Jena Bay, Anna Coccoli, Kimalee Cook, Hannah Duncan, Megan Eischen, Carley Gasaway, Hannah Giddey, and Umi Otsuka.

The Crimson Storm sets its sights on adding another championship to the history books as they enter the Great American Conference Tournament as the top seed. Southern Nazarene will face No. 8 East Central University on Thursday, March 8 at 5:45 pm at the Southside Arena in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
