Storm Compete at Crimson & Gold Invitational

Southern Nazarene turns in strong performances in Pittsburg, Kansas

PITTSBURG, Kan. - Southern Nazarene University traveled to Pittsburg, Kansas on Saturday afternoon to compete in the Crimson and Gold Invitational hosted by Pittsburg State, turning in a strong day on both the men's and women's sides.

SNU opened the meet with a strong performance in the women's shot put, where Micky McAlexander placed fourth with a throw of 13.75m. In the high jump, Abriel Thrash cleared 1.67m to finish sixth.

The Storm packed the women's pole vault with three athletes in the top 20. Shyla Navarre finished 14th after clearing 3.30m, while Remi Murray and Jazzmine Pinto each cleared 3.30m as well.

On the track, Thrash also competed in the 60-meter hurdles, running 9.38, while Deraya Collier followed with a 10.09. In the 400 meters, Alexis Williams posted a 1:01.69, and Collier added a 1:06.45. Tylie Thrash ran 1:34.36 in the 600-yard run.

Navarre returned for the 200 meters, finishing in 27.88, and the women closed out the afternoon with the 4x400 relay. The team of Shyla Navarre, Alexis Williams, Micky McCartney, and Abriel Thrash finished in 4:03.60 for 19th place.

On the men's side, Michael Styles highlighted the meet by breaking two SNU indoor school records. Styles ran 21.75 in the 200 meters to set the school record, and followed with a 48.94 in the 400 meters, another Crimson Storm record to place eighth.

In the high jump, Gabe Rush cleared 1.82m, while Brendan Cravens jumped 13.15m in the triple jump to finish 11th.

The Storm also put together solid track results throughout the day. Terrance Green ran 9.51 in the 60-meter hurdles, then added a 51.74 in the 400 meters and 23.14 in the 200. Gary Russell placed 27th in the 300 meters with a time of 37.08, and Maximus Washington added a 51.91 in the 400.

In the 600-yard run, Killian Smith finished in 1:22.50, and SNU wrapped up the meet with the men's 4x400 relay. The team of Ke'Lin Kearney, Killian Smith, Gary Russell, and Gabe Rush ran 3:27.59.
