SNU Competes at OU Winter Field Fest

The Storm take on a strong field in Norman with solid results across events

NORMAN, Okla. - Southern Nazarene University was back in action on Friday afternoon at the OU Winter Field Fest in Norman, taking on a tough field at a meet hosted by the University of Oklahoma SNU put together a solid day across the board, grabbing top-three finishes, posting big marks in the jumps, and stacking up strong early-season times on both the men's and women's sides.

On the track, Quinton Zirretta led the way for the Storm in the 60 meters. He ran a 6.91 in prelims before coming back with a 6.92 in the finals to take second overall. SNU stacked the prelims as well, with Patrick Uzzle (7.02), Jo'Quan Howard (7.17), Ian Locke (7.18), James Beasley (7.22), Stephen Joshua (7.30), Jessiah Burris (7.36), Gary Russell (7.51), and Dillion Breckenridge (7.78) all lining up for the Storm.

Howard also shined in the 60 hurdles, taking second in the finals with a time of 8.82.

Southern Nazarene had a big day in the field events too. In the pole vault, Tyler Deisering cleared 4.30m to finish fourth, while Maddex Merwin placed fifth at 4.15m.

In the long jump, Uzzle grabbed sixth with a strong 6.94m mark, followed by Burris in ninth at 6.52m and Breckenridge in tenth with a 6.20m jump.

The Crimson Storm kept rolling in the triple jump as Burris finished fourth at 13.76m and Uzzle added a fifth-place finish with a mark of 13.28m.

SNU also made noise in the throws. Colter Bufford led the way in the shot put, placing sixth with a toss of 13.50m. Dylan Warden finished eighth at 12.21m, and Johnaton Haywood was ninth with an 11.26m mark. In the weight throw, Haywood finished tenth with a best of 12.87m, Warden took 11th at 12.15m, and Locke added a throw of 11.04m.

On the women's side, the Storm started the day strong in the 60 hurdles with all three athletes finishing in the top five. Deraya Collier took second in 9.92, Nettie Gresham placed third in 10.05, and Emmi Robertson finished fifth in 10.40.

In the pole vault, Southern Nazarene put three in the top ten. Remi Murray led with a sixth-place finish after clearing 3.45m. Shyla Navarre also hit 3.45m to take eighth, while Jazzmine Pinto cleared 3.15m to finish tenth.

SNU wrapped up the day with solid results in the throws. Lexi Atteberry placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 12.48m, and Sarah Herring added a mark of 8.84m. In the weight throw, Herring finished 12th at 10.91m, and Atteberry followed in 13th with a throw of 9.85m.

Southern Nazarene will travel to Pittsburg, Kansas on Saturday, December 6 to compete in the Crimson and Gold Invite hosted by Pittsburg State University.
