SNU Opens Indoor Season with Strong Performances at Shocker Multi

Crimson Storm athletes record a school record, personal bests, and NCAA provisional marks in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. - Southern Nazarene University opened up the indoor season competing at the Shocker Multi hosted by Wichita State on Wednesday and Thursday.

On the women's side, SNU had a huge start to the year. Micky McAlexander, in her first season with the Crimson Storm, broke the school record in the shot put with a 13.41m throw. Abriel Thrash also hit a PR in the shot put at 12.69m. Both athletes also earned NCAA provisional marks in the pentathlon.

Thrash put together an impressive full day, finishing third overall with 3,548 points. She grabbed top-five finishes in multiple events, including a 5.40m long jump (3rd), a 12.69m shot put (2nd), and a 1.62m high jump (3rd). She also ran 9.49 in the 60 hurdles (4th) and closed strong in the 800 with a 2:37.55 (5th).

McAlexander followed close behind in fourth place with 3,428 points. Along with her record breaking shot put, she finished 3rd in the 800 (2:28.69) and added solid marks across the board, including a 1.53m high jump and a 4.93m long jump.

Jaidyn Brown placed 10th with 2,657 points, highlighted by a 5.06m long jump (6th) and a 9.61 in the 60 hurdles (6th).

Ivy Brennan wrapped up the group in 14th with 2,426 points, grabbing 13th in the 800 (2:52.99) and adding strong marks in the shot put (8.57m) and high jump (1.50m).

On the men's side, Brendan Cravens opened his season with another strong heptathlon showing, finishing 6th overall with a score of 4,571. He placed 2nd in the high jump (1.81m), 4th in the 1000m (2:55.05), and added solid marks across the board in the hurdles, long jump, and shot.

Gabe Rush also competed in the heptathlon, finishing 12th with 3,588 points. Rush grabbed a 4th-place finish in the high jump (1.81m) and closed out his day with a 3:11.52 in the 1000m.

Next Up 
The Crimson Storm will head to Norman, Oklahoma, to compete in the OU Winter Field Festival on Friday, December 5.
