SNU Athletics Alumni Spotlight: Mike Hearne

SNU Athletics is proud to recognize former SNU golfer, Mike Hearne

BETHANY, Okla. - Southern Nazarene Athletics is honored to recognize alumni and former SNU golfer, Mike Hearne for his achievements and for receiving his United States citizenship.

Hearne was born and raised in Bridgend, Wales where he grew up on the golf course. He learned how to play golf at the age of four from his grandfather.

At the age of eight, Hearne joined his first golf club where he continued to perfect his craft. As he got older, some of his friends began to move to the U.S. to play golf in college.

Hearne became interested in the opportunity and ultimately decided to attend Nova Southeastern. Shortly before he had planned to move to the United States, Hearne had to back out due to a family emergency.

The dream was still alive and Hearne continued to look for an opportunity to play in college. He was then given one phone call with an offer to play college golf in the United States. That phone call came from Southern Nazarene's head golf coach, Steve Hulsey.

Hearne made his way to Bethany in 2011 and struggled to adjust at first as he experienced true culture shock. He continued to give the university a chance and eventually fell in love with the people and the town.

He went on to graduate in 2015 with a degree in Marketing. He later earned his real estate license and began a social media page called "This is Oklahoma" in 2017.

With the success of his social media page, Hearne was able to create a podcast, also called "This is Oklahoma," where he interviews numerous people around and from Oklahoma.

He later went on to obtain a green card, and after having it for five years, was able to apply for his U.S. citizenship. The process was very easy for Hearne and he was approved and became a citizen of the United States in 2024.

Hearne was also inducted into the SNU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023 alongside the one coach who gave him a chance and brought him to the place he now calls home.

Hearne resides in Oklahoma City where he is a country club member and lives with his two golden doodles.
