Giving Day Spotlight: Kane Springer

BETHANY, Okla. - After a season-ending head injury on the second day of practice, Kane Springer ran into a crisis of identity and of faith.

After transferring to SNU from another school, studying something that he was not interested in, and then suffering the injury, Kane wasn't even sure if he wanted to continue taking classes. His best friend persistently urged him all week to attend an upcoming worship service on campus.

Kane says an alarm on his phone, one he doesn't remember setting, finally got him there. "I was in my PJs about to go to bed and I was like, maybe that's something, maybe that's a coincidence, whatever." But after going, Kane says the worship music that night helped him to fully surrender his life to Christ.

Kane says he didn't understand how important being in a Christlike culture that Southern Nazarene University offers would be. But being led in prayer and devotion by faculty before classes, and seeing faculty and staff worshiping in chapel alongside students, shows him that this place is about more than just baseball or the degree he will earn.

Since that night, Kane has poured himself into Fellowship of Christian Athletes, even speaking at the first event this semester. "A lot of athletes, we have an identity crisis." To Kane, it's important that his fellow student athletes are "able to go somewhere on a Monday night to get away from school and sports and really get back to what matters, and that's Jesus."

After college, Kane wants to continue his leadership pursuits, hoping to own his own business while also being active in giving to and serving his local church.

Kane knows that donors aren't just giving for the material needs in athletics. "You're giving for us to be able to experience Christ every single day. You're giving more for our future than you even are for now."

Donors like you change the lives of students forever. Kane says: "That's why I love SNU. Because in the Bud Robinson room, that's when my life changed forever. I'm so grateful God brought me here because I've never been so happy in my life."
