EDMOND, Okla.—After a month long hiatus from tournament play, the Southern Nazarene Men's Golf team returned to action on Monday and Tuesday at the Oak Tree Invitational.
The Crimson Storm claimed 13th as a team, moving up two spots after round one. They shot 319 as a team in round one, but improved 19 strokes to 300 in round two, followed by a 311 in Tuesday's final round for a three total of 930 (+90). Henderson State won the tournament by two strokes at 850 (+10) over hosts Oklahoma Christian. UCO's Evan Griffith was phenomenal all tournament and finished 5-under par, edging Cameron's Chris Somerfield, who shot 4-under par.
Sam Schmidt and Noah Kern once again were the leaders for Southern Nazarene. Schmidt improved 7 strokes from round one to round two, and Kern improved eight strokes between the two rounds. Schmidt went 79-72-75 for a three round total of 226 that netted him a T-41 finish. He finished with 8 birdies and shot 3-under on Par 5s. Kern went 78-70-80 to finish at 228 and T-43.
Landon Hendrix and Theodor Naus finished neck-and-neck at 75th and 76th, respectively. Hendrix finished at 242 (81-78-83), while Naus finished at 243 (81-80-82). Naus also hit the shot of the tournament, collecting his first career hole-in-one on the par-3 eighth hole in round three.
Dawson Dunlap rounded out the lineup for SNU. He finished 81st with a three-round totla of 247 and improved 13 shots from round two to round three.
Mason Sebrant competed as an individual for SNU. He finished right in front of Hendrix on the leaderboard at 74th. He tied for 14th in the field at just 2-over on Par 3s.
SNU will be back on the course again next week at the Rose Creek Golf Course in Edmond for the Broncho Invitational, hosted by Central Oklahoma.
