SAN ANTONIO, Texas—The 2022 Lonestar Women's Rugby Champions, Southern Nazarene, kicked off their spring 7 schedule at the Lonestar 7s Tournament hosted by the University of Texas-San Antonio last Saturday.
The Crimson Storm put together a strong showing in their first action since the National Collegiate Rugby championships in November. SNU finished the day 3-1, picking up shutout wins over the University of Texas and Texas State.
The day started with a dominant 24-0 shutout over Texas. They followed that game with their lone loss of the tournament, a 22-12 defeat at the hands of North Texas. The Storm trailed 15-0 at halftime in that game, but closed the gap to within three points. A late penalty try was awarded to North Texas, sealing the win for the Mean Green.
SNU bounced back nicely in the third game, completely dominating Texas State. They picked up their second shutout of the day, running away with a 41-0 over the Bobcats.
The opening tournament concluded with a matchup against Texas Tech. The Storm took care of business with a 22-5 win to finish the day with a solid 3-1 showing.
