Madalyn Harper and Carissa Burns set SNU records at the Matador Qualifier in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Texas — In preparation for the NCAA Championships coming up in early March, Southern Nazarene Track and Field headed to Lubbock, Texas to compete in Texas Tech's Matador Qualifier, where both the men and women recorded exceptional times and placements in multiple events.

The women were led by Madalyn Harper and Carissa Burns who set new milestones for SNU in the 1000 meter and 200 meter dash events. Harper set a new SNU record for the women's 1000 meter race, posting a time of 2:59.04 which gave her a second place finish among 12 other runners. Burns set a new PR and SNU record in the 200 meter event with a time 26.31, good for 15th place out of 43 total runners. Harper also competed in the 800 meter run, racing her way to a seventh place finish with a time of 2:21.88, racing ahead of 32 other athletes. 

The women were also highlighted by the performances of Sabbath Taylor who posted a third place in the mile run with a time of 5:23.30, ahead of 25 other athletes. Taylor also finished within the top-5 in the 3000 meter race, finishing 4th in a time of 11:02.56. 

Katelynn Tizzio also competed in the 200 meter dash with Burns, finishing 34th in a time of 28.01. Both Burns and Tizzio were featured in the 60 meter dash prelims, finishing 18th (7.99) and 31st (8.42) respectively. 

There were three Storm members that represented in the 600 yard run, with Tiffany Watson leading the pack with a 7th place finish in a time of 1:43.04. Chloe Brumage and Abbey King followed her in 8th (1:45.48) and 9th (1:53.43), respectively. 

Lauryn Downs led in the 3000 meter run with a 12th place finish (13:06.13) out of 15 total runners. 

The men also recorded noteworthy times and finishes on Friday, with the 4x400 relay team highlighting the day as they finished within the top-5 of 14 total schools. They finished 4th with a time of 3:23.27. 

Darrius Blackshire had a 6th place finish in the 200 meter dash, finishing ahead of 40 other runners for a time of 50.36. Scott Lynch also competed in the event, finishing just outside of the top-20 in 22nd for a time of 50.83

Lynch also represented in the 200 meter dash, grabbing a 23rd place finish for a time of 22.47, beating out 22 other runners in the event. Maximus Washington was right behind him in 32nd, finishing with a time of 23.01. 

The 800 meter event was led by Joel Haynes who finished 27th of 36 runners for a time of 2:04.67. William Ramirez and Dennis Green were after him in 29th (2:06.3) and 30th (2:06.49), respectively.

The NCAA Championships proceed this meet on March 9th and 10th, concluding the Storm's indoor portion of the season. SNU will be back on the track March 25th for the Oklahoma Baptist's Bison Relays event.
