Women’s Rugby Closes Out Unforgettable 15s Season

SNU Women’s Rugby celebrates a 2023 season-to-remember, hitting numerous program milestones in the 15s portion of their season

BETHANY, Okla. —  In just their second year as the official collegiate Women's Rugby Program of Southern Nazarene University, head Coach Aric Gilliland and his talented group recorded numerous program milestones in their 15s portion of the season, helping them become one of the top collegiate rugby teams in the league.

The Storm amassed a 7-2 overall record (6-1 regular season record), featuring two shutout-victories and large margins of victory over schools such as Texas A&M, Texas, LSU, and UTSA. Southern Nazarene's performance during the regular season not only allowed them to become back-to-back Lonestar Conference Champions, but their hard work also propelled them to a third place regional finish and a National Collegiate Rugby Quarterfinals appearance.

Facing Michigan, one of the most decorated rugby programs in the league, in the NCR National Championships, SNU fell in a hard-fought battle by just a slim 10-points at 30-20. The Storm redeemed themselves in the following match against Virginia Tech, taking down the Hokies 38-20, finishing the 15s season with just two losses to their name.

Southern Nazarene recorded some incredible points for and points against numbers, going 330-7 in conference play, 401-61 in the regular season, and 454-112 overall (including playoffs).

SNU will look to build off of their successful 15s portion of their season as they prepare for the 7s portion coming up in the Spring of 2024.
