BETHANY, Okla. — This past weekend, Southern Nazarene Athletics celebrated the induction of seven Crimson Storm alumni into the SNU Hall of Fame.
The last time an SNU Hall Of Fame Ceremony took place was in 2014, when eight Storm alumni were recognized and added to the list. Nine years later, Southern Nazarene Athletics finalized the addition of seven former athletes and coaches and celebrated them Saturday evening in Bethany. Among that list was Brady Wardlaw (Football), Michael Hearne (Men's Golf), Steve Hulsey (Men's and Women's Golf), Andrea Frizell Rose (Softball), Tyrone Ellis (Men's Basketball), Dominique Nayaga (Men's Soccer), and Stephanie Shellenberger (Volleyball, Cross Country, Track and Field).
Brady Wardlaw (Class of 2011) was arguably one of the greatest athletes to walk through the Southern Nazarene football program. Wardlaw holds the SNU records of passing completions, passing yards, passing touchdowns, and touchdowns responsible for. He also was the CSFL Offensive Player of the Year in both 2010 and 2011.
Michael Hearne (Class of 2015) was a standout golfer for SNU. Hearne holds the SNU lowest score records for the 18-hole, 36-hole, and 54-hole and won five individual tournaments, including the GAC Championship in 2013-2014. He is a part of the Great American Conference All-Decade Athlete Team for the years 2010 through 2019.
Steve Hulsey (Class of 1969) was one of the two coaches/leaders to be inducted. Hulsey left a lasting mark on the men's and women's golf programs, accomplishing 31 women's tournament wins and 16 men's tournament wins throughout his tenure. He not only created the SNU Golf Endowment, but he also coached the women's team to an NAIA National Championship in both 1999 and 2002 and was the NAIA Coach of the Year in both of those years.
Andrea Frizell Rose (Class of 2009) was one of the most decorated athletes in SNU Softball history. Frizell holds the all-time records for season strikeouts, career wins, career strikeouts, and opponent batting average. She became an NAIA All-American in 2006, NFCA All-Central Region in both 2006 and 2007, and was a four-time All-Sooner Athletic Conference.
Tyrone Ellis (Class of 2001) was an SNU Men's Basketball great, becoming a two-time NAIA All-American and Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2001. Ellis is fourth all-time in made three pointers and fifth all-time in scoring. He became First Team All-Sooner Athletic Conference in 2000 and 2001 and also made the Sooner Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team in 2000.
Dominique Nayaga (Class of 2006) was one of the most successful soccer athletes to wear the SNU jersey. Nayaga holds the SNU all-time record for points, goals, and game-winning goals. He became the NAIA Region VI Player of the Year in 2005 and the Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Offensive MVP in 2003. Nayaga won the Offensive MVP award for the SAC again in both 2005 and 2006.
Stephane Shellenberger (Class of 1974) was the second coach/leader to be inducted. Shellenberger was one of the most influential people to walk through Southern Nazarene University Athletics, notable for her work with Volleyball, Cross Country, and Track & Field. Not only did Shellenberger begin the collegiate Volleyball program at BNC/SNU in 1976, she also served as the SNU Assistant Athletic Director for 15 years and was a part of the faculty for 45. She was a five-time NAIA Volleyball Coach of the Year and led volleyball to become Bi-District Champions in 1983 and 1984 and District 9 Champions in the same years.
This seven-member induction now makes it 26 total members within the SNU Hall of Fame. Southern Nazarene plans to hold the next induction in the year 2025.
