SNU Track and Field races in Yukon, earning several top-5 and top-10 finishes

YUKON, Okla. — Southern Nazarene made the short trek over to Yukon, Oklahoma Saturday afternoon to compete in Southwestern Christian University's Invitational.

In the women's field events, Megan Wortmann had excellent placings all across the boards. She placed 5th in the long jump with a 5.00 meter score, 6th in the high jump with 1.45 meter score, and 9th in shot put, thowing 9.83 meters.

Wortmann also raced in the 100 meter hurdles, reaching a 3rd place finish in finals with a 16.77 time.

For the long distance races, Lauryn Downs raced in the 1500 meter event, placing in the top-20 with a 16th place finish (5:40.68).

Afeni Rubio finished 5th out of seven in the 5000 meters with a 21:29.46 time.

In the 800 meter run, Sabbatha Taylor finished 6th out of 28 other runners with a time of 2:26.87. Elora Jones finished 12th (2:34.33), Tiffany Watson finished 16th (2:41.23), and Lauren Stitt finished 17th (2:41.28).

Abrianna Drake notched a top-5 finish in the 200 meter dash, finishing 4th with a 27.00 time. Aaliyah Drake finished right at 10th with a time of 27.81.

In the 100 meter dash, three SNU members finished in the top-5 with Carissa Burns placing 3rd (12.56), Lyric Henry placing 4th (12.87), and Morgan James placing 5th (12.90). Aliyah Drake placed 12th (13.37).

SNU's two 4x400 meter relay teams finished 4th and 5th with times of 4:27.38 and 4:52.85 respectively.

The men had excellent showings as well, starting off the three athletes finishing within the top-10 of the 1500 meter event. Christian Escritt notched a third place finish with a time of 4:10.53 while Zach McAlpin came in 7th (4:16.58) and Joel Haynes came in 8th (4:17.52).

In the 200 meter dash, D'Kari Smith placed in the top-5 with a 4th place finish, recording a time of 21.90.

Scott Lynch raced his way to a 2nd place finish out of 13 other runners in the 400 meter dash, notching a time of 49.86. Malachi Allen finished 5th with a 51.09 time while Cedric Petties finished 8th with a 52.60 time.

Dennis Green raced to a 6th place finish in the 800 meter run (2:03.44) and William Ramirez placed 7th (2:03.88). Matthew Kletke came in 9th with a 2:07.88 time.

The men's 4x400 meter relay teams had a top-5 placing as Darius Blackshire, Cedric Petties, Malachi Allen, and Scott Lynch teammed up to a 3rd placement with a 3:25.36.

SNU will head back to Kansas next weekend to compete at Wichita State's sprints and distance events.
