NORMAN, Okla. — Southern Nazarene took a small lineup to The University of Oklahoma's John Jacobs Invitational that did not-so-small things. The Storm saw numerous personal bests from the men and women along with two school record-breaking highlights by Carissa Burns and D'Kari Smith in the 200-meter event, and another record-breaking time by Darrius Blackshire who broke his record in the 400-meter hurdle event.
The women raced their way to multiple personal bests, with a school record-breaking run by Carissa Burns who upgraded SNU's 200-meter time to 24.97, which was previously set at 25.22. Burns finished 18th in the event, placing ahead of 22 other runners in the event.
Madalyn Harper shattered another personal record in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:44.20, finishing fourth out of 26 other runners. Sabbatha Taylor also represented in the event, breaking her own personal best with a time of 5:07.00, securing a top-20 finish as she placed 14th.
Burns secured another personal best, running an 11.96 in the 100-meter dash, posting an 11th-place finish out of 39 other athletes. Morgan James and Abrianna Drake also raced in the event, recording times of 12.61 and 12.66 respectively.
The women's 4x100 team composed of Abrianna Drake, Carissa Burns, Lyric Henry, and Morgan James competed to a fourth place finish with a time of 49.09.
Megan Wortmann raced in the 100-meter hurdles event, bringing in a 13th placement with a time of 15.41.
The men also had some standout performances on Saturday, led by D'Kari Smith who broke the 200-meter record of 21.44 with a time of 21.33 finishing ninth out of 26 other athletes. Scott Lynch and Cedric Petties shattered their personal bests in the event with new times of 22.33 and 22.95, in that order. Malachi Allen recorded a time of 23.35 in the event.
