WICHITA, Kans. — Southern Nazarene Track and Field closed out their indoor season at the OBU/GAC Last Chance Meet with a couple to top-10 finishes in multiple events that weekend.
On the women's side, Madalyn Harper had another outstanding mile race. The senior was close to shattering her recently acquired personal mile record (5:06.39) as she ran a time of 5:09.35, placing 2nd out of 18 other runners.
The women had three top-5 finishes in the 60 meter dash brought to you by Carissa Burns, Morgan James, and Lyric Henry, who all game in 2nd (7.94), 3rd (7.99), and 4th (8.01) respectively. Burns also had a top-5 finish in the 200 meter ace, finishing 5th at 26.93. Morgan James also represented in the event with a 6th place, 27.28 time. Others were Dajia Davis (28.51), Aaliyah Drake (30.04), and Adonia Williams (30.56).
The women saw two top-10 finishes in the 400 meter dash with Lauren Stitt finishing 8th (1:07.33) and Lauren Davidson finishing 10th (1:08.91). In the 800 meter run, Elora Jones and Sabbatha Taylor each placed in the top-10, finishing 6th (2:30.11) and 8th (2:30.80).
Megan Wortmann showed a great 60 meter hurdle race, finishing in the top-5 of the finals at 4th with a time of 9.44. Chaya Crittenden finished just behind Wortmann in 7th with a time of 9.82.
Lauryn Downs and Afeni ran alongside Harper in the mile run, finishing 11th (6:19.36) and 13th (6:21.20) respectively.
Wortmann and Crittenden also participated in the Pentathlon, finishing 2nd and 5th respectively.
To kick things off on the men's side, D'Kari Smith received a first place finish in the 200 meter dash out of 16th other athletes with a time of 22.29.
Darrius Blackshire and Ryan Audette each had top-five finished in the 400 meter dash, placing 3rd (51:63) and 4th (52:42) respectively. Scott Lynch, Cedric Petties, and Malachi Allen also raced in that event with times of 52:61, 52:95, and 53:29 in that order.
Christian Escritt was just shy of a top-5 placement in the 800 meter run as he finished 6th with a 2:04.15 time. Andrew Shepard followed behind in 7th (2:05.63) while Dennis Green, Matthew Kletke, Josh Lewis, and Darius Petties placed 11th, 13th, 14th, and 15th respectively.
Zach McAlpin came up short of a top-5 finish in the mile run as he finished 6th with a time of 4:39.76. William Ramirez followed close in 7th (4:40.70) while Joel Haynes came in 10th (4:45.15).
The men's 4x400 relay team took a 2nd place finish next to Oklahoma Baptist as they finished with a time of 3:27.49. In the distance medley, they finished 4th with an 11:15.00 time.
With those that have qualified, Track and Field will head back to Pittsburg Kansas March 11th - March 13th to race in the NCAA Championships hosted by Pittsburg State.
