PITTSBURG, Kansas — Southern Nazarene's Men's and Women's track teams returned to Pittsburg State Friday to compete in PSU's Rumble in the Jungle event.
The women had a lot to show to kick off the first meet of 2022. Senior Madalyn Harper reached a milestone Friday as she broke SNU's current mile time by two seconds. One of SNU's distance greats, Kyra Fuller, was the previous record-holder as she maintained the title with a time of 5:13.04 secured in 2017. Harper now holds that record as she finished with a time of 5:11.87, placing 8th out of 41 other runners.
Megan Wortmann represented in multiple events, placing 4th in her heat in the 200-meter dash (28.46) and 19th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.87). Morgan James came in 28th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.77 while Carissa Burns finished 12th with a time of 26.79. Burns also placed 20th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.16.
Chaya Crittenden also raced in 60-meter hurdles (25th at 10:36) and the 200-meter dash (4th in her heat at 27:48).
Elora Jones finished 22nd in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:29.89
The men returned to the races as well, with athletes representing in multiple races. D'Kari Smith placed 27th in 60-meter dash with a time of 7.21 and placed 18th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.64.
Cedric Petties and Scott Lynch finished 26th (51.68) and 27th (51.74) in the 400 meter dash respectively.
Zach McAlpin represented in the mile, posting a time of 4:37.44.
The Storm head to Joplin, Missouri February 4th and 5th to compete at Missouri Southern State's Lion Open.
