Day One Results
MUSKOGEE, Okla. – Following up a third-place finish last week at the GAC Preview, the Southern Nazarene men's golf team looked to build on that heading to the 23
rd Annual NSU Men's Golf Classic. After the opening two rounds on Monday at Muskogee Country Club, SNU finds themselves in 13
th place after rounds of 287-297.
The 6,729-yard layout yielded many birdies on Monday, as defending NCAA Division II National Champion Arkansas Tech leads the way after firing a 19-under par score through two rounds. The Wonder Boys lead Central Missouri by five heading into tomorrow's final round.
Senior
Zander Tway paced the Crimson Storm after coming out of the gate on fire in his opening round. In his first 18 holes, Tway unleashed a 7-under par 64, a career-low, as he led the individual leaderboard after rouned one. His round featured six birdies, one eagle, and one bogey as it was the lowest individual round since former All-American Mike Hearne fired a 62 in 2013.
Tway couldn't keep the momentum rolling into the second round as he carded an 80, and his 144 two-round total has the senior tied for 39
th entering tomorrow's final round. Two strokes behind Tway is junior
Grant Murphey who carded rounds of 74-72 to sit tied for 48
th.
Tristan Florence recorded rounds of 76-73 on Monday, while
Will Coffman posted a 150 two-round total (76-74) to open the event. Freshman
Brodey Claborn rounded out the Storm lineup with rounds of 73-78 for SNU.
The Crimson Storm trail Southeastern Oklahoma State by one shot and eighth place UCO by 10 entering the final round. Arkansas Tech's Santiago De La Fuente leads the individual leaderboard by four strokes over Central Missouri's Nick Westrich.
