BETHANY – The Southern Nazarene University President's award was presented to Men's Track & Field athlete, Abesolom Mekura. Mekuria is a graduating senior from Nairobi, Kenya, as he earned his degree in International Business this past weekend. He was recently recognized as the LiveLast award winner during the 2021 Storm Sports Awards and was also the president of the International Student Society where he had been actively involved in helping his fellow international students figure out what SNU is all about. His involvement around campus has garnered him a respectable reputation, which was reflected in him receiving the school's highest individual recognition.

The President's Award is the highest award given to one male and one female undergraduate SNU student selected by the faculty, staff and administration of the University. The winner demonstrates a commitment to Refining Character, Creating Culture, and Serving Christ through loyalty, cooperation, service, appreciation of learning, sportsmanship, and leadership through a Christlike example. The sculpture presented to recipients is entitled, "A Cup…in His Name" and was crafted by SNU alumnus Scott Stearman. Their names will be added to a plaque displaying names of recipients since 1940.
