EDMOND, Okla. — Southern Nazarene opened the 2016 season with a 5-3 win over Texas-Permian Basin as SNU had to battle back from being down 2-1 after doubles.

The Crimson Storm (1-0), ranked No. 8 in the Central Region, picked up four wins in singles to secure the win.

Polina Chala and
Noelia Gomez (No. 8 in Central Region) picked up the lone win in doubles for SNU as they won a tiebreaker 7-5 to pick up the 9-8 win in the match.
Paulina Obreque and
Dragana Samardzic fell 8-1 at No. 2 doubles while Judit Mas and
Kylie Lang lost 8-2 at No. 3.

Chala (No. 8 in Central Region) opened her sophomore season with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. It was Chala's first match at No. 1 in her career. Gomez also won in straight sets at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Samardzic dropped her opening set 6-2, but then bounced back with a 6-0 win in the second set and won the tiebreaker 10-8 at No. 4. Mas also had to battle back from being down a set after galling 6-3, but won 6-2 in the second set and then finished off the tiebreaker at 10-6 at No. 5.

Kylie Lang fell at No. 6 singles 6-1, 7-5, and Obreque didn't finish in her match at No. 3 singles. Obreque fell 7-6 in the opening set, but was up 2-1 when the match was called.Â
