BENTONVILLE, Ark. — An exciting run for Southern Nazarene University came up just one match short as SNU just ran out of bullets in the Great American Conference Championship final. The Crimson Storm fell 5-3 in the title match and held leads in the final two matches down the stretch.

East Central though pulled out the win and picked up the automatic to the NCAA Central Regional. It also ends the illustrious careers of
Masha Andrianova,
Natalia Moreno and
Karina Kotova who helped the Crimson Storm to three national tournament (NAIA and NCCAA), three All-American nods, two GAC Player of the Years, six All-GAC honors, a GAC regular season title, a GAC Championship finals appearance and nearly 40 team wins in one of the toughest regions in the country.

The Tigers picked up the first win of the match at No. 3 doubles as SNU's
Kaitlyn Atkeson and
Taylor Sullivan fell 8-0. The Crimson Storm tied it with an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles by
Karina Kotova and
Polina Chala. The Russian duo rallied from being down 6-4 and won four straight to pick up the win. East Central though got the final say in doubles as
Masha Andrianova and
Natalia Moreno fell 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.

The Tigers jumped out to a 4-1 lead as Sullivan lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles and Atkeson fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5. The Storm got back into it though as Kotova won 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 at No. 4 singles and Moreno bounced back after losing the first set. The senior dropped the first set 6-2, but rallied to win the next two at 6-2, 6-0, to make it 4-3 in the match.

The Crimson Storm had leads at No. 1 and 2 as Chala won the first set at No. 2 7-6 (7-2) and was up 4-1. Andrianova won the first set 6-2, but ECU's Julia Municoy rallied to win the second set, 6-3, and the third, 6-1 to put secure the GAC Championship.

SNU fell to 4-13 on the year, but became the first program in school history to reach a GAC Championship final. The women's tennis program was also the first to win a GAC regular season title as they tied for it in 2012.Â
