BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene just missed knocking off the Central Region top-ranked team and No. 19 in the nation Southwest Baptist, but SNU fell 5-4.

The Crimson Storm (1-3), ranked No. 7 in the Central Region, played their third ranked team this year and had a shot in the final match to topple the Bearcats (11-1).

SNU took a 2-1 lead through doubles as
Karina Kotova and
Polina Chala won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles over the region's 10
th-ranked team in Lani Tuemmers and Maria Josie Zehnder. That increased their doubles record to 3-1 on the year.
Masha Andrianova and
Natalia Moreno fell 8-2 at No. 2 doubles to Fanni Varga and Zorana Jovanovic for their first loss at doubles this year.
Kaitlyn Atkeson and
Taylor Sullivan picked up a default win at No. 3 doubles to put SNU up heading into singles.

Atkeson picked up a default win at No. 6 singles to put SNU on top 3-1, but SBU began to answer back. Jovanovic knocked off Sullivan in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles before Fanni Varga, No. 15 nationally and No. 1 in the Central Region, gave Andrianova her first loss in singles competition in 17 straight matches with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat at No. 1 singles.

The Storm picked up a big win at No. 4 singles as Kotova defeated Beatrix Federer 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) to pick up her second straight win.

The Bearcats though closed the door with wins at No. 2 and 3 singles. The region's No. 15
th-ranked player Tuemmers outlasted Moreno 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 to tie the match at 4-4 before No. 14 in the region Zehnder downed Chala 7-5, 6-4.

The Crimson Storm now get set to travel to Southeastern Oklahoma State Thursday for a GAC match.
