Southern Nazarene set for GAC Championships

BETHANY, Okla. — The Great American Conference has released the bracket for the 2015 GAC Volleyball Championships – Presented by Subway and Southern Nazarene will take on Ouachita at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals.
 
The Crimson Storm (15-16, 11-5 GAC) finished in the top three in the conference for the third straight year and take the No. 2 seed for the second consecutive year. Oklahoma Baptist is not eligible for GAC postseason play. SNU swept Ouachita, 3-0, earlier this year inside the Sawyer Center. The Storm hit .316 and were led by Courtney Bowie who had 13 kills. Southern Nazarene is 4-0 all-time versus the Tigers (15-11, 8-8 GAC).
 
On Southern Nazarene's side of the bracket is No. 3 seed Southwestern Oklahoma State (19-11, 10-6 GAC) and No. 6 seed Northwestern Oklahoma State (11-17, 8-8 GAC. SNU split the season series with both teams as the Storm and Bulldogs split 3-0 games as each swept at home. Southern Nazarene swept the Rangers inside the Sawyer Center, but dropped a 3-1 match in Alva. The Storm are 11-4 all-time against Southwestern (9-4 since rally scoring began in 2001) and 8-2 all-time against Northwestern. SNU has not played anytime on its side of the bracket before in the GAC Championships. The Rangers and Bulldogs play at noon with the winner to face the winner of SNU and Ouachita Friday at 3:30 p.m.
 
Arkansas Tech (25-6, 15-1 GAC) takes the top seed for the second straight year and will play No. 8 seed Southeastern Oklahoma State (7-22, 5-11 GAC) at 5 p.m. The Storm and Golden Suns went five sets inside the Sawyer Center as Tech outlasted SNU, 3-2. The Storm opened GAC play with a 3-0 win over the Savage Storm in Bethany, and then rallied from being down 2-1 for a five-set win in Durant. SNU is 2-3 all-time against Tech and is 16-5 against Southeastern (13-4 in rally scoring).
 
The final match of the night will be No. 4 seed Southern Arkansas (18-13, 9-7 GAC) and No. 5 seed Harding (15-15, 9-7 GAC) at 7:30 p.m. SNU outlasted the Muleriders in five sets in Magnolia and defeated the Bisons for the first time in school history with a 3-0 sweep in Bethany. The Storm are 16-5 all-time against Southeastern and 1-3 against Harding.
 
SNU is 23-6 against its side of the bracket and 22-12 against the other side. The Storm are 45-18 all-time against the 2015 tournament field.
 
The Crimson Storm are looking to reach the final for the second straight year and earn the program's first berth to the NCAA Central Regional. SNU was four points away last year with an 11-4 lead on Arkansas Tech in the fifth set of the Championship Match. The Golden Suns though rallied with an 11-2 run to take the title with a 15-13 win in the fifth.
