NCCAA Tennis Championship Page BETHANY, Okla. — After falling in the NCCAA Central Region Tournament just over a week ago, Southern Nazarene didn't have a lot of high hopes of going back to its second straight NCCAA National Championship. SNU though not only picked up an at-large bid to its 11
th straight national tournament (9 straight in NAIA, 2 in NCCAA), but it picked up a second seed in Pool A.
The unfortunate draw is that the Crimson Storm (8-5) are in the same pool as No. 1 Azusa Pacific. The Cougars (18-7), just like the Storm, reached the semifinals of the NCCAA National Championship a year ago. APU has its eyes on the title after last year's champion Fresno Pacific didn't reach the national tournament after ending the Cougars' season a year ago.
No. 10 Southern Nazarene will open pool play Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. against No. 6 Campbellsville (Ky.). The Tigers (14-7) reached the Mid-South Conference (NAIA) Championship game, but fell 5-0 to Lindsey Wilson. Campbellsville went 0-3 in last year's national championship.
The Crimson Storm will then play No. 7 Roberts Wesleyan at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday as SNU and RWU are in the same pool for the second straight year. Southern Nazarene swept the Redhawks (16-5) 5-0 in pool play last year.
SNU closes out pool play Wednesday at 9 a.m. against APU.
No. 2 Dallas Baptist (17-8), who downed SNU in the region tournament, No. 4 Shorter (14-7) and No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan (24-2), who SNU just edged 5-4 in pool play in last year's tournament, round out Pool B.
Semifinal matches are set for Thursday at 9 a.m. with the championship match scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday.
