BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene dropped a close 5-4 match to the NAIA's No. 10-ranked Oklahoma Baptist Thursday afternoon.
The Crimson Storm (5-4) held a 2-1 lead after doubles as SNU took No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Masha Andrianova and
Natalia Moreno outlasted the NAIA's No. 5-ranked doubles team in a tiebreaker winning 7-3 to take the match at 9-8.
Karina Kotova and
Marina Shipilova also won 8-4.
Haley Cantwell and
Bekah Stewart fell at No. 3 8-0.
The Lady Bison (11-9) retook the lead after picking up wins at No. 5 and 6 singles as Cantwell fell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 while Stewart lost 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6. Andrianova swept No. 9 Anastasiia Baranova 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to tie the dual up at 3-3. Moreno lost at No. 2 singles to No. 14 Kateryna Shkot, 6-2, 6-4, but Shipilova knocked off Olivia Charvat at No. 3, 6-4, 6-3.
That brought the dual down to No. 4 singles and Kotova and Ashlynn Abbe. Kotova took the first set 6-4, and rallied back in the second set after being down 5-2. She tied the set at 6-6, but Abbe took the tiebreaker at 8-6. Abbe also won the super tiebreaker for the third set at 10-6.
The Crimson Storm now get set for the final dual of the Great American Conference season as SNU hosts Southeastern Oklahoma State Monday
