Southern Nazarene won its second straight, sliding past Ouachita Baptist

Box Score BETHANY, Okla. — Garrett Butler had 15 of his 16 points in the first half and Quan Conner had 10 of his 16 points in the second half for Southern Nazarene in a 72-68 win over Ouachita Baptist.

The Crimson Storm (10-10, 8-6 GAC) picked up their second win in a row and did it without the services of their leading scorer, CJ Smith, who was back in the Bahamas attending a family member's funeral.

Butler was 5-for-8 from the field and 3-for-6 from 3-point range in the first half. The Storm shot 60 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes and went 5-for-13 from downtown. SNU led the entire game, but had to hold on tight down the stretch. After taking a 35-22 lead at the half, the Storm stretched it to 40-24 early in the second half.

SNU led 53-41 with 7:55 to play when the Tigers (7-13, 4-10) went on an 11-3 run to cut it to 56-52. The Storm answered with four straight to push it back to eight at 60-52, but OBU responded with five straight to make it 60-57 with 1:57 remaining.

That was as close as the Tigers came though as SNU held on for the win.

Conner had 13 of his points off of free throws while Francisco Hukill had eight of his 14 points off of the bench at the line. The two combined were 21-for-27 while the rest of the Storm were 8-for-19. Antwone Jackson also had 11 points, six rebounds, four blocks and three assists. Dartanyon Meggs and Anton Kankaanpaa each had seven points.

The Storm shot 48.6 percent from the field and went 7-for-20 from 3-point range.

The Crimson Storm now take the longest road trip of the year as they head to Southern Arkansas, Thursday, for a 7:30 p.m. GAC game before going to Arkansas-Monticello Saturday.
