Southern Nazarene outlasted UCO to pick up its second straight

BETHANY, Okla.  —
Southern Nazarene stayed unbeaten and brought down an undefeated team with a 5-4 win over No. 42 Central Oklahoma.
The Crimson Storm (2-0), who are ranked No. 8 in the Central Region, pulled off its second straight 5-4 win and it came down to a tiebreak at No. 1 singles against the Bronchos (4-1), who are ranked No. 5 in the Central Region.
Junior Masha Andrianova (No. 6 Central Region) quickly took the first set at 6-0 over UCO's Alina Gorina (No. 14 Central Region), but dropped the second set 6-4. Andrianova then trailed 5-2 in the tiebreak before scoring five straight to take the 7-5 win and capture the match. 
It was UCO who took the first lead as it picked up an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles as Petra Pesic and Lauren Allison downed Hayley Cantwell and Bekah Stewart. Karina Kotova and Marina Shipilova though tied it at 1-1 with an 8-3 win over Kristin Richardson and Anna Braun at No. 2 doubles. Andrianova and Natalia Moreno (No. 9 Central Region) were right behind picking up an 8-3 win over Gorina and Emile Semo and No. 1 doubles.
The Bronchos picked up two early singles matches at No. 5 and 6 as Richardson defeated Cantwell 6-0,6-0 at No. 5 before Allison caught Stewart in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. Semo also knocked off Kotova 6-3, 6-0, at No. 4 singles as UCO took a 4-2 lead. Natalia Moreno though answered, winning 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles over Pesic (No. 16 Central Region), before Shipilova held on at No. 3 singles to win 7-5, 6-2 over Braun.
Then came the marathon match that just beat sundown as Andrianova secured the win for the Storm.
SNU now gets set to open Great American Conference play Wednesday at 2 p.m. against Southeastern Oklahoma State.
