Storm Rolls Through the South

Southern Nazarene picked up its fourth straight win and a road sweep

Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark. — The hot streak continued for Southern Nazarene as it won its fourth straight game with a 66-59 victory at Arkansas-Monticello Saturday evening.
It is the first time since November of 2011 that the Crimson Storm (12-10, 10-6 GAC) have won four straight and it is the first time since joining the Great American Conference that SNU has swept a road series in conference play. The sweep doubled the Storm's total wins on the road this season to four and inched SNU to just a game and a half back of first place in the GAC.
Dartanyon Meggs did not miss a shot the entire game as the sophomore scored 15 points going 7-for-7 from the field. He had 11 points in the first half. CJ Smith scored 18 of his game-high 21 points in the second half as he went 6-for-10 from the field, 2-for-4 from 3-point range and 7-for-9 from the charity stripe. Francisco Hukill scored 10 points, seven of which came in the second half, going 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. He also pulled down five rebounds.
The Storm made the most of UAM's 11 turnovers, scoring 17 points off those mistakes. SNU gave up just 10 points off of 12 turnovers. SNU shot 53.5 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from 3-point range. The Storm also gave up just three treys.
Both teams held their biggest lead of eight in the second half after neither team led by more than seven in the first half before SNU took a 32-30 advantage into the locker room.
The Boll Weevils went on an 18-8 run to start the second half to take their biggest lead at 48-40 with 13:21 to play. The Storm though went on a 19-3 run capped by a Smith layup to hold its largest lead at 59-51 with 5:54 remaining. UAM cut it to 61-58 with 1:37 to play, but that was as close as it came.
SNU now welcomes East Central to the Sawyer Center, Thursday, for a 7:30 p.m. GAC game after the Tigers picked up an overtime thriller in Ada earlier this year.
