Golden Suns Outshine Storm

Southern Nazarene fell on the road Saturday afternoon

Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Arkansas tech forced 17 Southern Nazarene turnovers and scored 22 second chance points, as the Golden Suns knocked off SNU 71-67 handing the Crimson Storm their third straight loss.
 
Neither team could pull away from the other in the second half as they battled back and forth. The Golden Suns (9-8, 5-6 GAC) took control of the game with 51 seconds to play after Danielle Frachisuer hit a jumper to extend Arkansas Tech's lead to 67-59. The Storm almost fought back, going on an 8-3 run cutting the Golden Sun's lead to three. SNU then had to foul to stop the clock and Kristztina Velkey hit a free throw with three seconds left to give Arkansas Tech a 71-67 lead and that was just enough to hold on for the win.
 
SNU (8-10, 5-7 GAC) shot 45.3 percent from the field but only went 5-for-18 from behind the arc shooting 27.8 percent. The Storm got to the free throw line 20 times and hit 14 of their attempts shooting 70 percent. The Golden Suns outrebounded the Storm 51-40 and outscored the Storm 22-0 off the bench. Arkansas Tech shot 36 free throws making 23 of them shooting 63.9 percent.
 
Aminata Fall led all scorers with 22 points and pulled down 16 rebounds while shooting 6-for-14 from the field. Callee Cox scored 21 points and pulled down five rebounds while Kristin Milster went 9-for-14 from the field and scored 19 points. Abby Boyd scored three points and Ashleigh Hutchings added two.
 
The first half was similar to the second half as both teams played each other evenly. Arkansas Tech took a 21-14 lead with 8:32 left to play in the half after Caroline Eubanks made a layup. The Crimson Storm though, battled back to tie the game up at the half 33-33. Fall scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds. She also went to the free throw line 10 times and drained nine of them going 9-for-10. Kristin Milster wasn't to far behind her netting 11 first half points shooting 5-for-6 from the field. Callee Cox scored seven points and pulled down four rebounds. The Storm shot 40 percent from the field in the first half but only went 1-for-8 from downtown.
 
SNU will now host Henderson State at home for a Great American Conference matchup, Thursday, at 5:30 p.m.
