Turning Down the Cougars

Southern Nazarene ended Colorado Christian's season

Conner ripped a season-high 13-for-13 at the free-throw line.
Box Score BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — For a team that averaged just over 66 percent from the free-throw line, Southern Nazarene got it done at the line in an 85-77 win over Colorado Christian in the quarterfinals of the NCCAA Central Region Tournament.

The fourth-seeded Crimson Storm (15-12) hit 77.8 percent from the line going 28-for-36 from the charity stripe. SNU was able to get to the line because SNU buried nine 3-pointers as five different players recorded treys. That drew the defense out and the Storm started heading for the paint.

Quan Conner got the best of both worlds as the junior drained three from the perimeter and went a perfect 13-for-13, career-high and a team season-high. Conner finished with a game-high 26 points and seven assists. He also had three steals. Garrett Butler and Antwone Jackson each finished with 15 points as that was a career-high for Jackson. Butler went 6-for-7 at the line and hit three treys as well. Jackson added four blocks. Trey Mohair chipped in with 11 points and Bradley Toone was just a point shy of a double-double with nine points and a career-high 11 rebounds.

SNU shot 52.2 percent from the field (24-for-46) and hit 39.1 percent from the perimeter. The Storm turned it over just 10 times, but got 21 points off of 12 CCU turnovers.

The Storm controlled most of the first half led by as much as nine at 24-15 with 8:32 left, but the Cougars closed the gap a handful of times, tying it twice, before SNU took a 39-36 lead at halftime. The two exchanged six leads and tied five times before a 7-0 run by SNU gave the Storm a 59-53 lead and they never trailed again.

Southern Nazarene will now take on the top seed in the tournament in McMurry (Texas) in the semifinals as they tip off at 4 p.m.
